Agnes Marie Long April 17, 1935 – December 5, 2018 Agnes passed away peacefully on December 5th, with her Husband Dave at her side. She is survived by her Husband of 59 years, David and her five children, Michael, Kenneth (Theresa), Jeffrey (Ann), Suzanne (Joanne) and Stephan (Meryl), her five Grandchildren, Paul, Deanna (Brian), Lauren, Miles and Rowan, and three Great Grandchildren, Jude, Catherine and Mary. Agnes was also a Step Grandmother to Jason (Kelly), Bethany (David) and Step Great Grandmother to Jayden, Kody, Dylan, Robert, Zoe and Lacey.

She was born in Philadelphia Pennsylvania to Agnes Mary Enright and Peter John Enright. Ang was the older sister to five siblings, Joseph (Rosie), Thomas (Sandy), Carol (Jim), Rosemary (Dick) and Robert (Terri). Agnes was a loyal and dedicated friend to many, including Cass Shoppell whom she met in Elementary school, Chris Mac Neel her best buddy as they raised their families in Willow Grove and April Wordinger her pal in Arizona.

Agnes had a keen mind, a sharp wit, a compassionate heart and a creative and generous spirit. She attended St. Rose of Lima Elementary School and West Philadelphia Catholic Girl High School. After Graduating from High School she served a five year apprenticeship as a Journeyman Printer and became a competent and qualified Proofreader.

It was also in this time period that she became a hostess with the USO, where she attended dances and would have her first dates with the young Airman First Class who would become her husband. Dave and Agnes were married on April 11, 1959 in her home parish. She and her new husband moved to Willow Grove PA, where they started their married life and their family.

Agnes’s greatest role in life was as a Mother. She was a strong and independent woman who taught us to be caring and compassionate people. She supported each of our individual talents, she taught us it was okay to fail as long as we tried.

She baked us cookies every Saturday, made us elaborate theme cakes for our birthdays. She was organized, strict, at times goofy and completely capable. Agnes was a woman of may talents and interests, as a teenager she was a lifeguard at the YMCA, her love of swimming later evolved to include synchronized swimming.

She was talented seamstress and made many of the clothes her children wore, she knitted and crocheted, she produced a prolific collection of needle point art. She volunteered at St.Davids while her children attended. Serving as a librarian, a hot dog lady, Girl Scout Leader, Cub Scout Den Mother, she taught Arts and Crafts and attended every concert, sports event and spelling bee, often staying after to help clean up the auditorium.

She was willing to do anything that needed to be done, she brought a strong work ethic to every situation. She volunteered with the Ukrainian American String Band and later became the President, which made her the first female President of a String Band in Philadelphia history. One of her greatest passions in life was music, she played the bassoon and piano in High School, and sang faithfully with the St. Davids Choir for decades.

After moving to Arizona in retirement she joined the choir and symphony, picking up and playing the bassoon after a sixty year hiatus. In recent years she would sing along with every song she heard, patting her hand in time with the music. She often said “the best form of prayer is song”.

Agnes Long was a Daughter, a Sister, a Wife and Mother, a Mother-In-Law, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Friend. She lived a full and happy life, she will be greatly missed and will remain always in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
