Preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and 5 sisters. Survived by wife, Verna; daughter, Karen; sons, Tony and Richard (Kathleen); grandson, Joe (Kristine); granddaughters, SuQian, Sophie and Natalie.

Al served in the US Navy 1942-1946 stationed primarily in the South Pacific. He participated in the invasions of Tarawa, Saipan, Tinian and Okinawa. While in the Navy, Al attended engineering school at Iowa State and Princeton University.

After return from war, Al attended St. Cloud University where he played goalie on the championship team in 1946, graduating that year with a Bachelor of Science degree. His first job was as a teacher and hockey coach at Williams High School, Williams, MN in 1948. Williams was a runner up in the State High School hockey tournament in 1949 and 1950.

On August 3rd 1950, Al married his soulmate, Verna Baumgartner, a union that lasted 68 wonderful years. Following his teaching career, Al worked in Advanced Development at Whirlpool Corporation in both St. Paul and Benton Harbor, Michigan from 1955 to 1985. He holds 12 patents on automatic dishwashers and disposals.

After retiring from Whirlpool, Al and Verna resided on Lake Sylvan, Brainerd, MN where he enjoyed fishing, hunting and all things outdoors. “Retired” he worked at the golf course at Madden’s Resort for the next 25 years. Mass of Christian Burial 10 AM Saturday, January 12, at St. Louis King of France Catholic Church (506 Cedar St., St. Paul) with visitation one hour prior to Mass at church.

Interment at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Boys and Girls Club of Central MN, Sibley Area Youth Hockey Association or St. Louis King of France Catholic Church.
