Obituary for Alberta Emmaline Hebert RICHLAND HILLS – Alberta Emmaline Besch Hebert was born in San Antonio on Oct. 4, 1918, and called to eternal life on Aug. 26, 2018.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. John the Apostle Church Altar Society, the St. Vincent de Paul Society or the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Alberta was the eldest of the four children born to Albert Emil Besch and Bertha Louise Obadal. She grew up five blocks from the Alamo in the German immigrant community whose activities revolved about historic St. Joseph’s Church.

She attended elementary and high school at St. Joseph’s Academy and then Our Lady of Lake University operated by the Sisters of the Congregation of Divine Providence. Alberta taught in the Castroville Independent School District. In 1941 she passed the Civil Service examination and was employed in the Adjutant General’s office of the Army Air Force at Randolph Field.

There she met a Cajun fellow from Houston, with roots in South Louisiana, the one and only, Raymond Albert Hebert. They were married at the base chapel on Oct. 28, 1944.

When World War II ended, they moved to Fort Worth, the home of Raymond’s closest Army Air Force buddies. Alberta attended TCU to augment her teaching certificate. She also worked as a secretary and statistical typist for the Federal Housing Authority.

The couple moved to Richland Hills in 1951. Alberta and Raymond were active parishioners at St. Mary’s Church, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, St. George’s Church and finally St. John the Apostle Church. Alberta was very involved in the religious education programs in the Parishes of St. George and St. John.

She treasured the Holy Family, the Catholic Church and its liturgical traditions, the many devout and dedicated priests and nuns, the Rosary and the Saints. She loved traditional religious music and art. She provided clothes and other necessities to several impoverished families in Fort Worth.

Raymond and Alberta always sought to console their bereaved friends. She was a charter member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church and involved in the Lady of the Lake Alumni Association and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Alberta actively maintained her lifelong friendships and was known for her many expressive and thoughtful handwritten letters.

Throughout her life, Alberta remained supportive of her many relatives in the Obadal, Besch and Hebert families. She was a faithful wife, a caring mother and grandmother, and a loyal friend. She had a great knack for making desserts and spoke German and Spanish.
