Obituary for Alexandra B. Gekas On June 20, Alexandra Gekas, known to family and friends as “Alex”, passed away at the age of 75 after a long illness. A native of Chicago, and lifelong Bears fan, Alex attended Loyola University, where she received a B.S. in Industrial Relations. She was the Director of the National Society of Patient Representatives at the American Hospital Association, where she was affectionately known as ‘mother duck’.

After her retirement from AHA, she held a leadership position at Press Ganey Associates for 10 years. She is survived by her son Haralabos “Bobby” Gekas, daughter in-law Angela DeSantis, niece Sophia Spyridis, and brother in-law Nikolaos Spyridis. Alex will be forever remembered by her extended family and numerous friends and colleagues.

A celebration of Alexandra’s life will be held Saturday July 7, 4-7pm, at Muzyka & Son Funeral Home, 5776 West Lawrence Avenue, Chicago. In lieu of flowers, donations to honor Alexandra’s memory can be made to Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Misericordia, and the American Civil Liberties Union.
