Obituary for Alfonso Gonzalez In Loving Memory of Alfonso Gonzalez (September 22, 1936 – September 10, 2018) Alfonso Gonzalez, 81, of Sunrise, Florida, passed away peacefully, Monday, September 10, 2018. Alfonso (“Papi,” “Bello,” and “Papa”) was born September 22, 1936 in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, to Juan Vera Gonzalez and Dolores (Fernandez). Alfonso moved to Chicago in 1957 where he met his future bride.

On November 19, 1960, he married the former Carmen Salazar. Alfonso worked as an industrial machinist at Main Steele in Chicago before his retirement. In 1999, Alfonso and Carmen moved to Florida to enjoy retirement.

Alfonso and Carmen shared 57 years of marriage together. Carmen was the love of his life. Alfonso will be remembered for his genuine love of family and friends, his integrity, and compassionate heart.

Alfonso never passed the opportunity to visit or invite others into his home. He enjoyed watching his Chicago Cubbies, late pay-per-view boxing, playing dominos, and listening to jibaro music. Alfonso enjoyed sharing memories of his native island of Puerto Rico and reminiscing while listening to “En Mi Viejo San Juan”.

His greatest loves and pride and joys were his seven grandchildren and his ray of sunshine, Kiara. Alfonso is survived by his wife, Carmen, and his two children. His son, Edgar (Lisa) Gonzalez of Coral Springs, Florida, and grandchildren, Zachary, Tyler, and Lexi, and his daughter, Lynette (Chris) Galvez of Palatine, Illinois, and grandchildren, Christian, (Adam, predeceased) Andrea, and Andrew, his brothers, Juan Gonzalez, Cristobal Gonzalez, Ramon (Mildred) Gonzalez, Francisco Gonzalez, (Luis Gonzalez – predeceased) and his sister Rosie, and many beloved nieces and nephews in Florida, Chicago, and Puerto Rico.

Family, friends, and others whose lives Alfonso touched are invited to: Alexander-Levitt Funeral Home, 8135 W McNab Road, Tamarac, FL for a celebration of Alfonso’s life starting promptly at 12:00 on Saturday, September 15, 2018.
