Alfred John Magee, 78, died on December 8, 2018 after a short illness at Baystate Medical Center with his family by his side. Born on Sept. 10, 1940 in Springfield, he was the son of the late Alfred and Carolyn (Winkler) Magee.

Al attended local schools and graduated from the Patternmaking course at Springfield Trade High School. He was employed at Hamilton Standard where he worked on the Apollo Moonsuit Project. After several years and many teaching courses at Westfield State, Al chose to move to the field of Vocational and Special Education.

He taught at MCDI, Springfield Trade High School and lastly, Pathfinder Regional Vocational High School where he retired in 1995 after 26 years of teaching. Al really enjoyed the folks he worked with and the special students he taught. In retirement, Al continued his lifetime love of woodworking and patternmaking with a busy career doing the very specialized wood restoration of classic cars.

He was an active member of the Wilbraham Lions Club for over 40 years and a longtime member of several classic car clubs. Al loved life and tried to live it to the hilt – whether skiing, snowmobiling, out West or in New Hampshire, traveling (especially Ireland) or enjoying special events with friends like rafting, dining, wine tastings or even dude ranches or ballooning. Times spent with family and friends were very special.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 50 years Susan (Bonelli) Magee, his sister Carol Aubin (James) of Springfield, his sisters in law: Sally Hawley of Springfield and Judith McMahon of Bondsville, his nieces Jennifer Colglazier, Wendy Dill, Lauren Hawley and Julie McMahon and his nephews Mark Aubin and Rob Hawley as well as many family members and friends. There will be no calling hours. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held after the holidays.
