Allan Earl Dean, age 98, of Swannanoa, NC died Thursday, August 30, 2018 at his home. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Ruth Sandorf Dean. Allan was born in 1920 in Rochester, NY of parents Rev.

Fred E. and Laura Agnes (St. Clair) Dean. He served as a Naval Aviator in World War II, was wounded in action and awarded the Purple Heart. He was a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley.

Allan was employed initially with The Bonneville Power Administration. This was followed by thirty-five years as a Foreign Service Officer with the U. S. Agency for International Development, where he served in a number of countries in Africa, Asia and Central America. The Deans retired to Swannanoa in 1982.

Allan’s interment will be at the Veterans’ Cemetery in Black Mountain, and, at his wishes, without ceremony. Penland Family Funeral Home is honored to be caring for the Dean Family.
