Obituary for Allan W Johnson Allan William Johnson passed away July,17th 2018 at the age of 74, in Minneapolis. Allan was born March 11, 1944 in Brooklyn, New York to Allan and Elin Johnson. He attended Schools in Brooklyn and earned a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Brooklyn Polytechnic University (NYU).

Allan liked to joke that the difference between high school and College was that for one he turned right at the subway and for the other he turned left. In 1966, he enlisted as an Officer in the Civil Engineer Corp of the United States Navy. During his 28-year career in the Navy, Allan served with the Seabees Mobile Construction Battalion in Vietnam, earned a master’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Michigan, and worked on military bases throughout the United States and abroad.

In 1993, Allan retired as a Captain in Pensacola, Florida. After retiring from the Navy, Allan spent 12 years with the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities as the Associate Vice Chancellor for Facilities. Early in Allan’s naval career, he married Margaret Schraufnagel of Glidden, Wisconsin.

He and Margaret had two children, Rachel and Benjamin. Allan valued his family and was generous with family and friends alike. He believed in responsibility, integrity and service.

Allan played the piano and appreciated music. He was an engaged member of Saint Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral and regularly played the organ for early services. Allan was a Volvo enthusiast, enjoyed conversation with good friends and was a daily reader and viewer of news and politics.

Allan is survived by his wife of 48 years, Margaret, his children Rachel and Benjamin (Kelly), his grandson Henry, his mother-in-law Dolores Schraufnagel, six cousins, many dear sisters and brothers-in-law, and over 50 dear nieces and nephews. Allan was preceded in death by his mother and father, Allan Gustav and Elin Linnea, and his Aunt, Esther Henrikson. The memorial service will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral, Thursday, at 11:00am.

Visitation will precede the service at 10:00 inside the Bishop’s Hall leading into the Cathedral. Memorial donations may be made to Lionheart Scholarships (MCTC), c/o St. Mark’s Cathedral, 519 Oak Grove St., Minneapolis, MN 55403.
