Alma Lou Chandler, passed away, after a long illness, on the morning of May 10, 2019. She was born to the late King David and Eva Bell Roby on October 7, 1932 in West Point, Mississippi. Alma received her formal education through the West Point Public School System, where she excelled in her studies.

Alma confessed faith in God at an early age and was baptized at North Side Christian Church in West Point where she was a faithful member for many years. Alma and her husband, the late Johnny R. Chandler Sr., were blessed with two children. Johnny, the love of her life, passed away in 1958.

Alma was only 27 years old with two young boys to raise on her own. She worked hard and started a business. She had a passion for owning and managing property and was successful at it.

Within a few years, she would own and operate two other thriving businesses: a grocery store and a car repair shop in the city of West Point. She was an entrepreneur. She passed her appreciation of business to her children and grandchildren.

She was immensely proud of her family, especially her boys and the men they became. She valued a good education, hard work and family. She considered raising her sons as the greatest accomplishment of her life.

Alma was strong and braver than most as a young woman, but she was not hard or harsh. Her spirit and heart were as lovely as the beautiful old hymns she loved to sing. She had a quick smile and a hardy laugh that those that knew and loved her will not forget.

She was a very generous and loving person with a most pleasant personality. We were truly blessed to have had her in our lives. She is preceded in death by her son, Johnny R. Chandler, Jr. in 2011; brother, King David Roby II; sisters, Queen Roby, Cora Daniels, Mary Rainey, and Sally Fullerton.

Alma will forever be cherished and remembered by her son, Robert Chandler and his wife, Thelma of Vandalia, Ohio; grandchildren, Robert, Wesley, John and Jalorine; brother, Thomas (Lillie) Roby; sisters, Etta (David) Ashley, Bettie (Robert) Lewis, Doris (Eddie) Mathews, Gloria Blaylock, Eva (Salah) Mubarek and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral service will be held 1 pm Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at the House of Wheat Funeral Home, Inc., 2107 N. Gettysburg Ave. Visitation 10 am at the funeral home until time of service.

Family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Interment Shiloh Park Cemetery.
