A homegoing celebration for Mr. Alphonso “Shep” Sheppard Sr., who peacefully answered the call of his loving Savior as he departed this earthly life on Wednesday, September 12, 2018, with his family by his side. A tribute of love service honoring the legacy of Mr. Alphonso “Shep” Sheppard, Sr. will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2018, 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of College Hill 3838 N. 29th Street, Tampa Fl. 33610, with Dr. S. Evan Burrows, senior pastor, officiating.
Mr. Sheppard was a graduate of Middleton High School Class of 1959. He served in the United States branch of the Army. He worked for Hillsborough County Board of County Commission for 30 years until he retired.
Although Mr. Sheppard had many accomplishments throughout his life and career, “Shep” was best known for being an advocate for Black History and Barbecuing. He enjoyed spending time with family and was a very loving person. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Katheryne Sheppard; brother, Earl Sheppard; son, Terrence Nichols, Sr, and granddaughter, Antoneshia Sheppard.
He leaves to cherish precious memories with his devoted wife, Edwina “Kitty” Sheppard; sons: Alphonso (Jean) Sheppard Jr., Antonio (Melinda) Sheppard Sr., Samuel Hicks III, and Cedric Hicks; Like a daughter, Rachel Amones; granddaughters; Chantelle (Matt) Holland, Terrencia Nichols, Shayla Hicks, Ced’Kiya Hicks, Antonleshia Sheppard, Samya Hicks, An’Tanyah Sheppard and Jy’l Harris; grandsons; Antwan Bynum, William Sheppard, Terrence Nichols Jr., Samuel Hicks IV, Pierre Hicks, Alphonso Sheppard III, Antonio Sheppard Jr. and Anthony Sheppard; great-grandchildren; Isaiah Sheppard, Aeryn Harris, Makayah Haynes, and Ashton Sheppard, nieces; Wanda (Bubba) Conaway, Ginell (Frank) Jackson, Tasha (Dr. Wright), Tammy Lark, Tam’Mara Nichols, Luv Stewart, Stephanie Nichols, Tracy Nichols, Janae Gathers; nephews, JJ (Vicki) Conaway, Veron Nichols; god-sister, Beverly White of St. Petersburg; mother-in-law, Doris Nichols; sister-in-law, Judy Conaway; brothers-in-law, Orvon Nichols, Michael Nichols and Kenneth (Kimberly) Nichols; daughter-in-law, Karen (Leonard) Hart; cousins, Michael Mosely, Cynthia Mosely, Sheila Cottle, Constance Mosely, Hazel Amos, Jacqueline Smith, Sylvia Coleman, and Reginald Coleman; extended family, Martha Thompson and family, Cleo Lowe and family, Lisa Monroe, Michelle Wallace and Tigi Sherrill; special friends, Milton Stirrup, Mochie, Tank, Frank Kennon, Anthony Bell, Ronald (Linda) Graham and Hubert Graham; a host of other family and friends. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, September 21st from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
