Alyce (Joyce) Wiedner, 95, loving wife of Frank for 72 years, mother of six, grandmother of 22, great grandmother of 11, passed away peacefully at home on October 27, 2018 surrounded by her family. Loving Mother of Patricia (Paul) Purcell, Carole (Peter) Clarke, Paul (Harriet) Wiedner, Mark (Jenifer) Wiedner, John Wiedner, Marianne (Chip) Stride. Dear Grandmother of Carolann (Baird) Allis, Paul (Mary) Purcell, Emily (Josh) Locke, Mark (Michelle) Purcell, Rebecca (Hubert) de la Vauvre, Molly (Parker) Dunning, the late Jimmy Wiedner, Beth Wiedner (Faiz Razi), Katie Wiedner, Annie Wiedner, Maggie Wiedner, Andrew (Nikki) Wiedner, Landis Wiedner, Wally Wiedner, Hallie Wiedner, Caleb Wiedner, Hannah Wiedner, Joshua Wiedner, Allie Stride, Parker Stride, Caroline Stride, and Martha Stride.

Cherished Great Grandmother to Catherine, John Paul, and Mark Allis, Owen and Madison Purcell, Caroline and Patrick James de la Vauvre, Clarke Dunning, Brooklynn, Pason, and Wesley Wiedner. She is preceded in death by her parents Patrick and Maryanne Joyce, her siblings Marion Doherty, John, Francis, and Philip Joyce, and her beloved grandson Jimmy Wiedner. Alyce was born and raised in Brookline MA, and attended Boston University and Loyola University.

She met her husband Frank while he was serving in the Navy and attending Harvard. Alyce was an army nurse and served overseas during WWII. She and her husband Frank were married in Tokyo, Japan in 1946 after the war.

They settled in Chicago and later moved to Glen Ellyn, where they raised their six children. Alyce was an active member of St. Petronille Parish for 65 years. She was on the parish women’s council and planned many of their social events.

Alyce volunteered at Marianjoy Rehabilitation and served on their board. Alyce enjoyed playing bridge and golf, and for more than forty years not an afternoon went by that she didn’t share a daily cup of tea with her best friend, the late Peggy Doerries. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Wounded Warriors Project or the Misericordia Home.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 1 from 3 – 8 PM at Leonard Memorial Home (565 Duane Street, Glen Ellyn IL, 60137). Funeral Mass will be Friday, November 2 at 10 AM at St. Petronille Church (420 Glenwood Avenue, Glen Ellyn IL, 60137).
