A graveside service for Mrs. Amanda Blue Hicks of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2019 will be held on Saturday, June 1st, 10:00 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery, 4406 E. Chelsea Street, Tampa, FL 33610, Pastor Anita Williams, officiating. The interment will follow. Amanda was born on January 30, 1934 in Tampa, Florida to the late, John C. Blue, Sr. and Adell Corey.
Amanda was born and raised in Tampa and was the eldest of the eight in the Blue children. In 1955, she met and married Fred Hicks and to this union four children were born. They remained married until his death in 2003.
Mrs. Hicks attended the schools Hillsborough County. Mom loved the Lord and shared her faith through caring, comforting, cooking and encouraging others. Many of the children in the family called her the “Kissing Auntie”.
She loved attending church, gospel singing, and family time. Our mother was a homemaker, babysitter, and caregiver. Her family was the center of her joy, but it went beyond our home as she was a neighborhood mother and grandmother to many.
She was an awesome role model in our family and community and will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John C. Blue, Sylvester Blue; sisters, Thelma Williams and Louella Hicks; son, Fred Hicks, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Sabrina Hicks and many of her in-laws in the Hicks and Blue family. She leaves to cherish her memories, 2 daughters, Constance Haywood and Bardine Hicks; 1 son, Gainey Hicks; 1 sister Barbara Baker; 2 brothers, Leroy Blue, Sr. (Claudine) and James Blue, Sr. (Freddye); 2 sisters-in-law, Betty Blue and Beatrice Hicks of Birmingham, AL; grandchildren, Fred Hicks III (Erica), Stephan Hicks (Rebecca), Danielle and Danesha Haywood, Alexis (Dante) Houston, Dominique and Dominae Haywood, Alexander Hicks, Poarche and Roshon Clark of Harvest, AL, Antawn Morris (Adrienne), Marshana Moultrie and Ronnell Callahan (Valdete), Willonda Windham and Joshua Dorsey; great-grandchildren, Sabrina, Stephan, Jr., Tuleilei, Lailah and Landon, DiAnnah, Dante, Jr., Harmony, Aubree, Daniel, Monty Gray, Harvey, Achilles, Sam, Ronnell, Jr., Raheem, Joshua and Faith; special relationships, loving nephew, Otis Williams (Debby) and niece, Sheila Williams; a host of other relatives; special friends, Retha Wilson and Ermel Sprung, Evelyn Reed, Northview Hills family-friends.
The visitation will be held at St. John Cathedral, 3401 E. 25th Avenue, on Friday, May 31st from 5 to 8 p.m. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. Thea family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery on Saturday for the service.
