Amanda “Mandy” Reaves-Speller was born on April 17, 1974 and passed away on May 1, 2019. Mandy grew up in Mount Olive, NC and graduated from Southern Wayne High School in 1992 and East Carolina University in 1996 with her degree in Health Education. She leaves her mother and step-father Debra and Rick Kraft of Ocean Isle, NC; father and step-mother Richard and Renee’ Reaves of Goldsboro, NC; grandmother Thelma Reaves of Mount Olive, NC; brother-in-law, sister, and nephew, John, Jan, and Kayden Britt, of Winterville, NC; sister Jenny Reaves of Winterville, NC; brother-in-law, step-sister, and nieces, Simon, Corey, Harper, and Alden Gildener of Raleigh NC; brother-in-law and half-sister, Alex and Samantha McCance of Mount Olive, NC; her beloved David Rabun, of Robersonville, NC; and her faithful furry friend and companion Nick, of wherever Mandy was at all times.

She also leaves a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins. Mandy was an amazing person. She had a beautiful heart, a giving soul, and a personality as big as the sky.

Mandy was many things to many people. She was a big sister to twins Jan and Jenny, and the three of them were as close as sisters can be. Growing up, they were known as “Mandy and The Twins,” because if you saw one, the other two were undoubtedly close by.

She was a paramedic in Pitt and Duplin Counties for many years, and later an Organ Donation Coordinator. She touched more lives than can ever be known in her work and was a selfless servant to others her entire life. She was an instant friend to anyone who knew her – particularly if you had four legs.

She was “that” friend who could listen and relate to your problems without judgment, and that friend who would help you no matter what. She loved animals at least as much as people, and they naturally adored and trusted her in return. She was “DiDi” to a special nephew who loved her more than he could ever express; and she had plans to be “that aunt” who gets nephews into trouble when they are old enough.

To everyone else Mandy was the person who could have next to nothing – but would insist that you take half of what she had. She was the person who would laugh at herself in a second – but would vehemently defend anyone who was laughed at. Her life was tragically short, but she lived every minute of it.

She was a beautiful person, with a bigger than life personality, and will always be a beautiful soul. We, her family and friends will forever miss her, and the pain of our loss is tremendous, but we will forever cherish the gift that Mandy was to us and all who knew her. In lieu of flowers – donations may be made in her honor to the Pitt County Animal Shelter, or any charity contributing to the welfare of animals of your choice.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, 11:00 am at the Ayden Cemetery in Ayden, NC. Farmer Funeral Services is honored to serve her family. On line condolences may be sent to farmerfuneralservice.com.
