Andrea Constance Poh, 72, died in her home in Phoenix, AZ around September 11th, 2018. Andrea Constance Poh was born in Queens, New York of Hermann Andrew Poh, a NYC Fireman and Virginia Constance Gorodovich on July 24th, 1946. She is survived by her only child and daughter, Charissa Allyson McCarron, Darrell McCarron, and two grandchildren, Braden McCarron (8) and Danica McCarron (12); and by her brother Timothy Poh, sister-in-law Diane, niece Alexandra Sullivan, and nephews Tristan Poh, and Brenden Poh; her sister-in-law Holly Poh, niece Georgianna Koolassenski, and nephew Nicholas Poh.
She is predeceased by her brother Andrew Poh, and both parents. She was the first of 3 children of Hermann and Virginia Poh, who were married for over 64 years. After 8 years in the city, Hermann built a house in Goshen, NY, a rural town at the time.
She loved dance and art as a child and attended a community college for a short time before training as an Eastern Airlines flight attendant in 1966. While flying she met and married David Maynard in 1967 and they built a house in Fayetteville, GA, where they lived for over 26 years. She sold real estate for 2 years and then became a homemaker.
She battled breast cancer at the age of 29 and the next year had her only child, Charissa, in 1975. Their favorite vacation and most memorable was their trip to the Virgin Islands, where they rented a sailboat for 8-10 days with friends. They both shared a love for the Peanuts cartoon and raising their daughter who also loved dance and art like her mother.
They divorced after 30 years together. “Andi” as she was so lovingly called, moved to New Hampshire to be near her parents and brothers, where she lived for 6 years. Whereupon, she decided to move to Phoenix, AZ to be near her daughter and son-in-law as they began to start their family.
Andi was a painter most of her adult life. She painted crafts, wood, and many canvases. Her “realist” style was so exact and she mastered both light and shadows in her all of her work.
She taught Girlscouts art as well as local Fayetteville women in the community. Her studio and supplies were donated to nearby Ahwatukee art students and special needs students. Andi was a spiritual soul and a bookworm who was highly opinionated.
She considered herself a Southern Yankee as most of her life was split evenly between living up north and in the south. For those who wish, the family suggests a donation be made to Happy Tails Dachshund Rescue, in Chandler, AZ. She was in love with the dachshund breed and had her health been better would have had at least 5 running around in her house.
There will be two celebrations of her life: 11-2-18: Mass of Remembrance at the Parish of St. Benedict Church at 7pm (16223 S. 48th St, Phoenix, AZ 85048) 11-3-18: A Memorial Service will be held at her daughter and son-in-law’s house at 7pm. Please wear her favorite color blue. Coffee and desserts will be served.
