Andrew A. Pomykala “Andy,” age 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 1, 2018 with his loving family by his side. Andrew is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Edith (nee Smith) Pomykala; children, Barbara Owen, Phyllis (Simon) Harris, Kevin, Robert (Candis), William (Doreen) and Paul Pomykala; grandchildren, Kristy (Keith) Paciulli, Michael (Marie) Owen, Anya Pomykala (Steve) McLain, Ashley (Ben Moffitt) Pomykala, Andrew Harris, Sarah (Tyler) Gedvilas, Christopher Harris and Kenneth Harris; great-grandchildren, Erika Reames, Mia Paciulli, Alessandro Pomykala, Abigail Owen, Rebecca Owen, Ario Pomykala, Adam Paciulli and Raiden Moffitt; sister, Sophie (the late John) Kirincich; brother, Anthony (Sharon) Pomykala; brothers-in-law, James (the late Theresa) Montgomery, Lindel, Marvin and Glen Smith; sister-in-law, Virginia Thiel; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by his parents, Walenty and Mary (nee Sowa) Pomykala; son, Kenneth A. Pomykala; brothers, Joseph (Margaret), Peter (Effie) and Marion (Betty) Pomykala; and sister, Theresa Montgomery.

Andrew was a proud United States Army Veteran serving during the Korean War. He was a member of the Polish Legion of American Veterans, VFW Post #2199, American Legion Post #1977 and Korean War Veterans. He was also the Kosciuszko Post #30 Commander for 15 years and President of the Young American’s Club.

He retired from Olin Chemical in 1991 after 38 years of service. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Manhattan. Andrew greatly enjoyed spending time with his family, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of his life.

He was a handy man whose skill was valued by his family and friends, from fixing cars to woodworking Andy could do it all. He also enjoyed bird watching from the comfort of his home. Andy will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

A celebration of Andrew’s life will begin on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 with a visitation at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The family invites relatives and friends to meet at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Manhattan on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 for a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery (Guardian Angel) in Manhattan.
