Obituary for Ann L. Bess Ann L. Mims, born on June 6, 1932 in Fort Valley, Georgia was the oldest of eight children from the late Dave & Estella Mims. She was blessed with a beautiful daughter, the late Carol Skillings. Ann was raised and educated in Daytona Beach Florida, attending Campbell High School and Bethune Cookman College were she graduated with a degree in business education.

Ann relocated to New York were she met and married the love of her life Addison Bess, she continued her education in New York attending New York University, Columbia University and City College of New York. While at NYU she met Dorothy Height, who recruited her to work with the (NCNW) National Council of Negro Women, and she served as the President of the New York chapter for the borough of Queens. Her desire to give back to the community remained with her throughout her life and she volunteered at the Eastern Farm Workers Association until she was no longer able.

Ann worked as an educator instilling her love of education to students in many schools until she retired. She enjoyed fishing and to traveling with family. She also loved to be outside working in her garden.

Ann has survived by her loving husband of 62 years Addison Bess, 5 grandchildren: Fachon Davis, Ayeronde Davis, Gerard Skillings, Paul Skillings, Teresa Skillings, 17 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great- grandchildren, her sister Ruby Mims and three brothers Dave Mims, John Westley Mims and Eddie Mims, as well as a host of nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. She was proceeded in death by her daughter Carol Skillings of Daytona Beach Florida, 3 sister Daisy Broxton of Daytona Beach Florida, Edna Laws of Daytona Beach Florida, Janie Mims of Daytona Beach Florida To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Ann L.
