Anna “Anka” Swedar, 92 of Jim Thorpe passed away Monday morning in Mahoning Valley Nursing. She was the wife of the late Stephen “Captain” Swedar who passed away in 2003. Born in Coalport, East Mauch Chunk November 27, 1926 she was a daughter to the late Joseph and Mary (Horvath) Rimsky.

She was a graduate of East Mauch Chunk High School. Anka worked for many years as a presser for many garment factories in the area, including Jim Thorpe Sports and the Berkley Bags company. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jim Thorpe where she served as a eucharistic minister.

Anka was a member of Jim Thorpe American Legion Post 304, Fairview Hose Company, Diligent Fire Company, Mauch Chunk Rod and Club all in Jim Thorpe. She helped at Mother Paulines at St. Joseph’s. She enjoyed helping out at Jim Thorpe Memorial Park for weddings and other events.

Anka loved being around her family, friends and was always loved to talk and tell a story. She loved playing bingo and going on trips. Surviving are her daughter Sharon and her husband Craig Feuerstein in Jim Thorpe.

A son Ron Swedar and his wife Shelly of Lehighton. Her sister Rose Wernett of Jim Thorpe. Grandchildren Dawn Feuerstein, Walnutport.

Jeanine Jones and her husband Josh, Jim Thorpe. Troy Feuerstein and his wife Darcy of King of Prussia. Great grandchildren Olivia, Phoebe, Keegan and Hannah.

Anka was predeceased by her brother Joseph Rimsky and her Grandson Chad. Services will begin in the David J. Stianche Funeral Home on Friday February 8 at 10:30am followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in St. Joseph Catholic Church Jim Thorpe with Rev. James Ward officiating.

Calling hour will be held on Thursday February 7, 6pm until 8pm in the David J. Stianche Funeral Home 123 Center St. Jim Thorpe and Friday morning 9:30am until the time of the services in the funeral home. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Online condolences at www.
