Anna Lorraine Heischmidt Dickmann, our beloved mother passed away in Altamont, IL on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at the age of 91. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and dear friend. Her life will be celebrated forever.

She was born Wednesday, March 23, 1927, to Martin and Edith (Smith) Heischmidt. In 1945, she entered WWII’s U. S. Cadet Nurse Corps program at Missouri Baptist Medical Center in St Louis. Anna married William Grover Dickmann on November 3, 1946,… in Dexter Methodist Church.

She enjoyed playing the piano, reading, cross stitch, writing letters, coloring and made the best fried chicken. She taught Bible School, adult and children’s Sunday School for many years. She was a wonderful mother and role model to her four children, Nancy, Gayla, Fred and Rebecca.

Ann was a member of Eastern Star and Effingham Co. Home Extension. In a contest, spearheaded by WCRA, she named Heartville. She adored her “Arizona” aunt Dell.

She and Bill traveled to Israel, Egypt, Jordan, Greece, Italy and the Netherlands. They lived on the farm until their health led them to Lutheran Care Center. Her final years were spent enjoying the extraordinary loving care and activities at Lutheran Care Center.

Special thanks to Dr. John Opilka and wonderful staff at LCC. We know you were a joy to her as she was to you! Survivors include: Nancy (Glenn) Winter, Gayla (Neal) Westbrook, Fred (Esther) Dickmann and Rebecca Humphries.

Five Grandchildren and their families: Angela (Neil) James, Matt (Cari) Winter, Vanessa (Chris) Kalantzis, Michael (Joann) Humphries, Lauren (Brett) Briggs, and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband, William, son-in-law, Robert Wayne Westbrook, her brother and sister-in-law, M. Elwood and Irene Heischmidt, and a grandson, John David Humphries. Funeral services will at Noon on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont with burial to follow at Union Cemetery, Altamont.

Visitation will be for two hours prior to the service. Memorials may be to Lutheran Care Center, Shriners Hospital for Children, or the donor’s choice.
