OBITUARY Anna Louise Serena August 28, 1934 – September 8, 2018 Louise Serena, 84, died on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at her home. Louise was born on August 28, 1934 in Cavasso Nuovo, Italy to Domenico and Maria (DeMichael) Lovisa. Louise married the love of her life, Giovanni Serena on January 29, 1955.

Together they made the decision to immigrate to the United States from Italy, sailing to New York City in May of 1958 and settled in New Orleans before moving to Des Moines in 1969. Louise was a homemaker, caring for her family and babysitting her grandchildren, as well as many children in West Des Moines who were her world. Her passion was cooking and enjoyed traveling with Giovanni and her family.

She was always smiling – her smile and warmth lit up a room. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Giovanni; children, Lorenzo (Jean) Serena, Gianna Serena; grandchildren, Heidi (Eric) Rodriguez, Jacque (John) Walker, Milena Serena, and Edward Serena; great-grandchildren, Lilianna Meyer, Chance and Olivia Walker, and Enzo Rodriguez; sister, Luciana (Aldo) DeMarco. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and sister in Cavasso Nuovo, Italy.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, September 12th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in West Des Moines. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Tuesday evening at McLaren’s Funeral Chapel with a Rosary at 7pm. Entombment will be at Resthaven Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
