Sargeant June 06, 1941 – January 10, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences We are gathered here today in the memory of our mother, wife, grandmother and everyone’s beloved friend, Annie Mae Sargeant. On this given day may we acknowledge and share both our joy in the gift of her life and the pain of her passing. In sharing the joy and the pain together today, may this memorial lessen the pain from our hearts and allow us to remember Annie Mae’s joyful spirit and soul.

Our mother and wife, Annie Mae Tucker was born on June 6, 1941, in Georgetown, South Carolina to the late Mr. Cuffie and Hattie Mae Tucker. Annie’s parents had eight children which Annie was the youngest of her siblings who unfortunately preceded her in death. Annie attended Choppee High School in Georgetown, SC and graduated in 1960.

She was well liked by her peers and remained close to a lot of them over the years. Annie arrived in New York City when she was 19 years old. She knew then that Harlem would be her new home!

On June 11, 1966, she married her longtime boyfriend Earnest Sargeant in which they had two children, Earnest Sargeant, Jr. aka Mike and Tonya Sargeant. In her final years she was employed at Citizens Day Care Center as a head cook, she retired in 2006 and was known as “Ms. Annie” by many and as a wonderful spirit. She was caring and always willing to give a hand or a listening ear.

She was known for her cooking and her kind heart; feeding many souls daily. A spirit that will be greatly missed. Annie was survived by: her LOVING husband, Earnest Sargeant; her children, Earnest Sargeant, Jr. aka Mike 48 and Tonya Sargeant 45; daughter-in-law, Laciana Sargeant 42; her grandchildren, Najee Sargeant 25, Malik Mayo 23, Taylor Sargeant 21, Tamari Nelson 14, and Bailey Sargeant 9; and on January 7, 2019 GOD blessed the Sargeant family with baby girl, Mi’Yani Sarai Mayo, great granddaughter to Earnest and Annie Sargeant.

Our beloved Annie Mae will forever be in our hearts and soul.
