Dear brother of Donna, Francis,”Winky” (Sue) and Jennifer. Adored uncle of Richelle (Jason), Virginia, Trey, John, Holly, Savannah (John), Anthony, Jeremy, Shamus and Paige. Great uncle to Madalynne, Rhiannon, Ryian, Brooklyn, Jordan, Jayden, Gabriel, Holly, Kaitlyn, and Lilly.
Slugger was born in Philadelphia, PA on September 17, 1958. He was raised in a loving home with his mother, father, sisters, and brother. He married the love of his life “Terry” in 1980.
They lived their life together in Philadelphia, PA, Wildwood, NJ, and Florida. Slugger retired from Sands Casino in Atlantic City, NJ. He was born Anthony Francis and shortly after his Dad nicknamed him “Slugger” and it has stuck ever since.
When he was a little boy he met his lifelong best friend, Kenny Flade, and from that point on, The Flade Family became a second family to him. He made many friends growing up but he was especially close to his siblings and cousins. Growing up as a kid, Slugger spent most of his time with his siblings Donna, Winky, Jennifer and his Geier cousins.
He built a very special friendship with his cousin, Gary Geier, that lasted forever. Slugger started having many nieces and nephews over the years who he loved and adored. He stepped in as a father figure to many of them.
Slugger continued to make many more friends over the years and cared for and loved his friends as if they were family. He would do anything he could for a friend or family member in need and never expected or wanted anything in return. Friends describe him as a “BIG guy with an even BIGGER heart”.
Slugger had a love for boats that he shared with his father. He spent many years in Wildwood creating wonderful memories on his boat with family and friends. He was a proud member of the North Wildwood Moose Lodge 585.
He enjoyed going hunting with all of his hunting buddies. Then he had his motorcycles. Slugger had a few different ones over the years, he spent a lot of his time at his nephew Jack’s motorcycle shop, Penn Jersey Cycles.
He enjoyed spending time at Gabrielle’s and Capri with his friends, especially the nights when his very close sister Jennifer would join him. He had an extra special place in his heart for his twin, niece and nephew, Savannah and Anthony. He helped raise them and they were a big part of Slugger and Terry’s life.
They brought much joy to his life as any child would. He was very proud of them. He had a very strong bond with Anthony and was proud to call him his son.
Alot of people love Slugger and Slugger loved alot of people. More than anything he loved and adored his wife and she loved and adored him. They enjoyed trips to Ocean City Maryland, Florida and summers at the campground.
They just enjoyed being with each other. They spent 40 plus years creating many memories that Terry will cherish forever and think of often, now that he is gone. Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing and funeral Saturday, March 30, 2019, 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM, Burns Funeral Home, 1514 Woodbourne Road, Levittown, PA.
Interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, a donation to “Slugger’s Ride to Heaven” (gofundme.com) or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
