Obituary for Anthony (Tony) Thomas Doppler Anthony (Tony) Thomas Doppler of Chanhassen MN, was born on April 6, 1951. Tony passed away from leukemia on April 4th, 2018 at the age of 66. It was God’s plan he would celebrate his 67th birthday rejoicing in heaven.
Tony was raised by his loving parents Anthony and Helen (Bodell) Doppler in the Esko/Duluth area. He attended Esko High School and graduated in the class of 1969. Tony was a family man, full of life, enthusiastic and a mentor to many.
He loved Robin and his children very much. He enjoyed family traditions and hosted many family gatherings. His personal chef, Robin, kept him well fed both at home and while on countless “guys” trips.
He treasured time spent at the family century farm in Akeley, weekend deer hunts, and canoe trips to the Boundary Waters at Sawbill Trail with Gavin, his brothers, and nephews. Tony was an entrepreneur throughout his life. He thoroughly enjoyed his work with Community Credit and often had a story to share.
Many hours were logged piloting his own plane. The garage was one of Tony’s happy places. He was a self-taught mechanic and did most of his own vehicle maintenance.
He was always quick to share his time and talents with those in vehicle distress. Recently he was under the car, with his daughter Sarah, changing the struts and oil. He was quite handy and could fix about anything.
If you needed a tool, set of jumper cables, trailer hitch, ice scraper, waterproof jumpsuit or a cell phone charger, Tony had you covered. Tony was selfless and always willing to give to others. He made sure all his nephews’ and nieces’, who affectionately called him T-Dawg, first cars included an emergency kit.
Tony’s past times often included trips to the “Man Mall”. He was a highly valued customer at Fleet Farm, Costco, and Goodwill where he regularly found deals too good to pass up. In May 2017, Tony spent a week with Gavin on a trip to Texas and most recently they went on an ice fishing trip.
Tony was a fair-weather fisherman; for Tony it was more about spending time with loved ones than reeling in fish. He enjoyed history whether it was reading a book or watching a documentary. We will remember him for his sense of humor, quick wit, and always having a joke to share.
Grateful for having shared his life are: Robin Osterkamp; his children Sarah Doppler of Minneapolis and Gavin Doppler of Moorhead; his siblings Sharon Kimball of Duluth, Tim (Diane) Doppler of Plymouth, and Randy (Kris) Doppler of Ramsey; as well as many nephews, nieces, extended family and friends. Tony was preceded in death by: his parents Anthony and Helen (Bodell) Doppler; his grandparents Adolph and Frances (Saretsky) Doppler and Steve and Hattie (Berendt) Bodell.
