Antonio Benito “Benny” Saveriano passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 27, 2019. Antonio was born in Ospedaletto D’Alpino, Avellino, Italy on March 29, 1938. He was raised by his loving parents Michele and Antoniette.
While growing up in Avellino, he met Anna Fasolino. They were childhood friends and their families were very close. He served in the Italian Army.
Antonio came to America in 1961 to follow Anna and they had settled in Paterson. They married on April 20, 1963. They would call Paterson their home for 40 years, before moving to Elmwood Park and then Ramsey.
While living in Paterson they were parishioners of The Blessed Sacrament Church. Benny was a life long member of the Roma Sport Club, formerly in Paterson and now in Woodland Park. His favorite pastime was going to the club as he would affectionately say “vago abbascio Roma Club” where he would catch up with old friends, play cards, and enjoy a nice cup of coffee.
Benny had many talents, a self -taught mechanic by profession and his passion for fixing cars lasted his entire life. It was almost as if he was breathing new life into the cars he worked on. He was the owner and operator of Benny’s Central Auto Repair shop in Paterson, ultimately became Benny’s & Son Central Auto Repair shop and operated his business until his retirement.
It was not until his retirement when his family discovered what an amazing cook he was! He would whip up creative and delicious food specialties for his family to enjoy. He shared a special relationship with his grandsons James and Alexander since they lived together, whether watching sports, movies or being involved in their activities of their everyday lives; he was always devoted to them.
Benny was the loving husband of Anna (nee Fasolino) for 54 years, who predeceased him in 2017. He was the devoted father of son Michael and wife Vanessa of Wayne, his daughter Annette and husband Stephen of Ramsey. He was the cherished grandfather of James, Angelica, Alexander and Anthony as well as his furry grand cat Carter.
He is survived by his sister Maria in Italy, brother in law Alfonso and wife Elizabeth Fasolino of Wayne. He is predeceased by his brother Sabatino, and sister Guiseppina of Italy, brother Carmine of Brazil, and brother in law Pasquale Fasolino here in the US. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 7-9 PM at the Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home, 109 Darlington Ave, Ramsey, NJ.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, March 8, 2019 at 10 AM at St. Paul RC Church in Ramsey, NJ. Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Bergen County Animal Shelter, 100 United Lane, Teterboro, NJ 07608.
