Arlene Plennert Fisher, 72, of Estero, FL and Harwich Port, MA, passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2019. She had been a resident of Estero since 2016 and Harwich Port since 2007. Arlene was born December 6, 1946 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of the late Frank Joseph and Marion (Koshiol) Plennert and sister of the late James Frank Plennert.
Arlene was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She touched the lives of so many with her kindness, positivity and adventurous spirit. Arlene received an Associate’s Degree from Westbrook Jr. College, her Bachelor’s Degree from C.W.Post/Long Island University in Brookville, NY, and her Master’s Degree from Providence College in Providence, RI.
She taught elementary education in Barrington, RI and Westford, MA. She finished her career as a Reading Re Facilitator in the Westford, MA school systems. Having owned property in Harwich Port since 1973, Arlene and Bruce decided it would be the perfect place to retire.
Arlene loved the beach and being close to the ocean. As a favorite activity, Arlene walked the beach at the end of their street every evening toward sunset, rarely missing a day. Whether rain or shine, day or night, winter or summer, sick or in good health, alone or in the company of family, friends, or even side by side with the occasional stranger, she would walk.
When questioned, Arlene claimed she never grew tired of walking her beach, explaining (that) “depending on the lighting, the weather – all circumstances – I see something new and different each time. No two days I walk are the same”. Arlene possessed a unique ability – she perceived beauty all around her, in each and every day that she lived.
Always with an uplifting and adventurous attitude, Arlene exuded love, giving all of her heart and soul to others, teaching us to recognize and focus on our best qualities and never to focus on “the negative”. With family, Arlene’s utmost desire was for her children to be happy, content, and cared for, no matter what. She was a devoted wife and partner, seeing that all holidays and family affairs become a uniquely traditional and creative experience guaranteed to make all members feel special in any way she could.
When her children were growing up, Arlene transformed the household into “the one” all of our friends wanted to visit. Though she is missing, Arlene’s home remains one her family and friends are forever fortunate to visit, as her love endures there eternally. Mrs. Fisher is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, David Bruce Fisher; her three beloved daughters, Lauren Elizabeth and her husband Michael Posmoga of Pensacola, FL, Kristen Meridith and her husband Kevin Murphy of Merrimack, NH and Katherine Elaine and her fiancé Toby Sicangco of Harrison, NJ; and two cherished grandchildren, Colin and Megan Murphy.
A Memorial Service will be held in Massachusetts in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Dana Farber Cancer Research, Boston, MA or Hope Hospice/Joanne’s House, Bonita Springs, FL. Arrangements are being handled by Shikany’s Bonita Funeral Home – Family Owned Since 1978.
