LEIST, Arlene, age 79, of Kettering, passed away October 13, 2018. Arlene was a loyal and loving wife to her husband Richard William Leist of 59 years. Richard cared for her in the last months of her life.

Arlene was born to John and Mary (Edward) McMahon on March 1, 1939 in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. She worked at St. Elizabeth Hospital as a surgical technician, and Buckeye Brass and Iron.

Arlene sewed for Betmar Artware, specialty design skirts from her home, as she was a talented, expert seamstress. (She made her wedding gown and several others. ) She was an amazing mom, active as a leader for the bluebirds and campfire girls.

Arlene volunteered at Ascension School and Carroll High School in the cafeteria and in typing classes. She enjoyed many years boating and water skiing at Lake Cumberland, Ky. Arlene loved fishing with her grandkids, and was a devoted grandmother.

She loved the Florida beach and traveling. Arlene enjoyed King’s Quest and other computer games. She camped with her husband and their friends, along with the horses.

Arlene was known to star gaze, loved to read, work Sudoku, crossword puzzles, cross stitch, and play euchre. She had a quiet strength and will always be remembered by those who knew her as a kind, gentle spirit. Arlene kept her Rosary by her side and prayed it every day.

She was a member at Church of the Ascension since 1965. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Michael McMahon; and infant sister, Gail. Arlene is survived by her loving husband, Richard W. Leist; children, Liz (Leslie Hahn) Godsey, Linda (Tom Cheers) Shipley; grandchildren, Brandon (Amanda) Godsey, Nathan (Kalie) Godsey, Garrett (Colleen Bosche) Shipley; great-grandchildren, Nash & Mason Godsey; sisters, Mary Procuniar and Patricia (David) Schuerman; 3 nephews and one niece.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 22, 2018 at 10:30 am at Ascension Catholic Church, 2025 Woodman Dr., Kettering, OH 45420. Burial at Calvary Cemetery, with a luncheon immediately following at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E Stroop Rd, Kettering, 45429. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the Pink Ribbon Girls, 15 South Second Street, Tipp City, Ohio, 45371.
