NORTHFIELD — Arnold Raymond LaFrance, 76, of Northfield passed away at his home on Sept. 23, 2018, after a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of Betty McManus LaFrance for the past 45 years.

Arnold was born on Jan. 3, 1942, in Laconia to the late Raymond LaFrance and Lilly Hemmingway Fontaine. In his earlier years, he worked as a backhoe operator for BPS in Laconia, and worked as a boat mechanic for several years in Elliot, Maine.

Arnold enjoyed racing. In the early ’70s, he could be found at Bryars racetrack. His car was number 44.

He loved the ocean and enjoyed deep sea fishing on his boat. He was very good at troubleshooting and tinkering on anything with a motor. He was quick-witted, funny and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Arnold was predeceased by his sisters, Janet Ruiter and Elaine Rich; his son, Arnold R. LaFrance Jr.; and a grandson, Stephen Reinholz. He is survived by his daughters, Denise Houle of Laconia and son-in-law Wayne Houle of Northfield and Sherry Reinholz and fiance Raymond Lerp of Alexandria; his sisters, Lorraine Dion of Nevada, Anita “Patty” Stanley of Northfield, and Doris “Dolly” Smith of Massachusetts; his grandchildren, Kristy-Lee Houle, Jessica Houle, Brian Reinholz, Jennifer Hingston, Katie Reinholz and Justin LaFrance; as well as eight great-grandchildren. Per Arnold’s wishes, there will be no calling hours.

A private family service will be held at a later date at Homeland Cemetery in Bristol.
