Obituary for Arthur “A.W.” Smith III Arthur Watson “A.W.” Smith, III, 77, of Spartanburg, SC, died Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Eden Terrace. Born May 24, 1941 in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Arthur Watson Smith, Jr. and Wilhelmina Kelly Smith. A.W. was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, and a member of the Seekers Sunday School class.

A 1963 Wofford College graduate, he was retired as President of Smith Data Processing, a division of The J.M. Smith Corporation. Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Penny Penland Smith; daughter, Kelly Smith Kops (Mark) of Milton, GA; son, Kevin Smith (Cynthia) of Charlotte, NC; four grandchildren, Richard, Anna, Lillian, and Claudia. Along with his parents, he was also predeceased by a son, Derek Smith and sister, Peggie Carrington.

A Memorial service will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 2, 2018 at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 1320 Fernwood-Glendale Rd, Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by The Rev. John L. Warren, Jr. Visitation will follow in Poston Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 1320 Fernwood Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307 or to Elite Daycare, P.O. Box 1181, Spartanburg, SC 29304.
