Arthur Wessels, 72, of Oskaloosa, died Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at Mercy One Medical Center in Des Moines. He was born July 29, 1946, in Wharton, Texas the son of Emil Wessels and Mary Music Wessels. He grew up Wharton and graduated from Wharton High School.

After high school Arthur enlisted in the Unites States Army. After serving three years, he married Dixie Blu and they later divorced. He worked a majority of his life in construction building pole barns and as of late scrapping metal.

He also worked at Clow. He married Connie Garrett, the two later divorced. Arthur was a member of Oskaloosa American Legion Post 34 and Oskaloosa V.F.W.

He loved hunting, fishing, digging in the dirt, mushroom hunting, and collecting coins. He is survived by his children: Loretta (Ed) McCloud), Amanda (Dennis) O’Brien, Christina (Blake) Tille, Daniel (Jody) Beason all of Oskaloosa, Dewayne Jemison (Tammy Langstraat) of Beacon; tweleve grandchildren; many great grandchild; five sisters: Patricia Sparling of Indiana, Jeanette Winsett, Cathleen Kutsher, Cynthia Young, Carol Berger all of Texas; three brothers: Larry Wessels, Gary Wessels and Kenny Wessels all of Texas. Arthur was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law: Al Sparling.

As was Arthur’s wish, his body has been cremated and his cremains will be buried at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa. No visitation is planned. Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
