Arturo’s Obituary ARTURO S. RUIZ July 30, 1954-September 23, 2018 Arturo S. Ruiz, age 64, passed on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at Yuma Regional Medical Center in Yuma, AZ. Arturo S. Ruiz was born July 30, 1954 in Mexicali, Baja California, México to Maria Santos Ruiz and Antonio Ruiz. Arturo emigrated to the U.S. with his family as a child and became a U.S. Citizen in 1982.

Arturo grew up in both California and Arizona. He attended Ontario High School and Yuma High School but had to stop his studies to help support his family. Arturo later received his GED and went on with his studies at AWC.

Arturo became employed at the age of 19 at the Yuma County Juvenile Justice Center. He made this his life career and retired after 33 years of service. He received countless awards and certificates in his career, including the Detention Officer of the Year Award in 2001 for the State of Arizona.

Arturo was highly respected by the Juveniles of Yuma County that had been placed in his care and was always referred to as Mr. Ruiz even after retirement. In the 1970’s, Arturo established the first lowrider car club in Yuma, AZ. He named the car club, Los Saints Car Club since his middle name was Santos.

Los Saints Car Club was well known in the Yuma community by the people interested in Lowriding. Los Saints Car Club hosted many car shows and dances. , as well as, participated in many local community events like Cinco de Mayo and downtown block parties.

Arturo was known to the lowrider community as Tiny. Arturo was a die a die-hard Oakland Raider fan. He wore the Raider shield on his clothing and on his vehicles with pride.

Arturo had collected all things Raiders and agreed with the Raider Nation Movement. His favorite saying was “Raider Fan for Life! ” Arturo is survived by his wife of 35 years, Yvonne Ruiz, his two sons Marc Anthony Ruiz and Michael Angel Ruiz.

Arturo has two grandchildren, Marc Anthony Ruiz (Bitty) and Dominick Ruiz. Sisters Maria Torres and Rosa Ruiz, brother Jose Cervantes. Numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2018, 5pm to 9pm at Desert Valley Mortuary, 138 N. Avenue B, Somerton, AZ with Pastor Joe Avila officiating at 7pm. Private cremation services will be completed by Desert Valley Mortuary. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Yuma Regional Medical Center, Intensive Care Unit for their great care and support in his final days.
