Asa Charles Reid, 70, of La Porte, passed away at home on Saturday, May 4, 2019. Asa was born on March 3, 1949 in Hastings, MI, to Charles Franklin and Ruth May (Jones) Reid. On November 13, 1988 in Augsburg Lutheran Church, Chesterton, IN, he married Elizabeth “Beth” Molnar who survives.

Also surviving are his beloved sons, Asa (Christina) Reid, Jr. of La Porte and Myles (Carrissa Title) Reid of La Porte; 1 granddaughter, Calliope Reid of La Porte; siblings, Alton L. Reid of Chuckey, TN, Cleo J. (Roger) Keyes for Springfield, MI, and Fredrick A. Reid of Springfield, MI; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents; 3 sisters; and 2 nephews, Charles and Harold Keyes. Asa served in the U.S. Army for over 20 years, with his most recent position being as an Army Recruiter.

He retired in 1994. His favorite past times included politics, arts, painting, music, trains, planes, helicopters, and military memorabilia. Asa loved spending time with his family.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 am (CT) on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 2900 Monroe Street, La Porte, IN. A time of visitation will be held from 9 am (CT) until the time of service at the funeral home. Another Celebration of Life will be held at 11 am (ET) on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at Andrus Street Church of God, 765 Andrus Street, Battle Creek, MI.

Burial will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery, 15501 M 96, Augusta, MI. A time of visitation will be held from 9 am (ET) until the time of service at the church. Memorial donations may be made to the Veterans for Glioblastoma.
