OBITUARY Ashley Rhiannon Coffman June 27, 1980 – January 5, 2019 ASHLEY RHIANNON COFFMAN INDIAN ISLAND–Our beloved Ashley Rhiannon Coffman of Penobscot Nation, Maine passed away unexpectedly on January 5th, 2019 after a long battle with addiction. She was a beautiful and vibrant soul who made friends anywhere she went and brought light and laughter into so many lives. Ashley was a star student at John Bapst Memorial High School, graduating in 1998.
She then attended the University of Maine Orono. From an early age, Ashley had a passion and understanding for children which led her to study Early Childhood Development. She was ecstatic to have two of her own, Chloe (9) and Cameron (4).
She loved them infinitely and worked hard to give them everything they wanted. She had a passion for nature and animals and could often be found hiking, swimming, and skiing with her family and rescue dogs. Ashley was predeceased by her mother, Tina Theriault; paternal grandparents, Kenneth and Gertrude Romine; and maternal grandparents, Marlin and Mary Rhine.
She was survived by her children, Chloe and Cameron Calcasola; father, Ralph Coffman of Old Town, Maine; sister Courtney Coffman and brother-in-law, Eban Delano of North Conway, NH; sister, Kalie Shorr of Nashville, TN; nephews, Jackson and Mason Delano and niece Paisley Delano of North Conway, NH; and father to her children, Carlo Calcasola. She also had many cousins, aunts and uncles, and numerous friends whom she loved dearly. If you or someone you know is battling addiction, please know you are not alone and you can overcome it.

Nearly every person has been affected by it directly or indirectly, and compassion and support is crucial in the recovery process. We know that Ashley is now watching over us, free of her demons. We will never understand why her struggle ended this way, but will spend the rest of our lives trying to help and educate people to prevent other families from having to experience the grief we feel right now.
Friends and family will gather to celebrate her life Friday January 11 from 5-8pm at Birmingham Funeral Home 438 Main Street, Old Town where a celebration of life will be held 10am Saturday , with a reception immediately following at the Penobscot Nation Bingo Hall 7 River St, Old Town.
