Aubrey Joseph “Joe” Steinkamp, age 63 of Rensselaer, passed away Sunday, February 10, 2019, at his home in Rensselaer. Joe was born in Rensselaer, Indiana on November 3, 1955, the son of the late Robert Steinkamp and Cordelia Hensley. A lifetime resident, Joe attended the Rensselaer Schools.

He began working at the Jasper County Highway Department in April 1976, continuing to work there as both a truck driver and in maintenance. Joe is survived by his brother, Mark (Lily) Steinkamp of Newburgh, IN; sister, Rhonda Rineker of Dunedin, FL; aunts and uncles, Janet (Jerry) Smith of Rensselaer, IN, Faye Holbrock of Salyersville, KY, Kate Weathers of Washington and John (Phyllis) Hensley of Rensselaer, IN; nieces, Angie (Steve) Clapp of Rensselaer, IN, Julie (Dale) Claussen of Brook, IN and Amy (Ben) Blankenship of Lafayette, IN; several great-nieces and great-nephews and his dear friend and stepmother, Beverly Steinkamp of Newburgh, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Cordelia, a brother Robert Steinkamp, brother-in-law Bud Rineker and four uncles.

Friends may call at the Jackson Funeral Chapel in Rensselaer on Monday, February 18, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Funeral services for Joe will be held Monday, February 18, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. at the Jackson Funeral Chapel in Rensselaer with Pastor John Hostetter officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Rensselaer. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
