Audrey’s Obituary Audrey Lassiter Copeland, 91, formerly of Ryland Road, departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior, on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at Bon Secours Maryview Nursing Care Center in Suffolk, VA. Mrs. Copeland was born May 5, 1927 in Aulander, NC , the daughter of the late Emlis Tearthur Lassiter and Clyde Smith Lassiter. A homemaker, she was a member of Happy Home Pentecostal Holiness Church in Tyner.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 53 years, Vivian Odell Copeland; three sisters: Allie Mae Byrd, Texanna L. Lassiter, Rosa “Rose” L. Parks; two half sisters: Katie Shores and Carrie Lassiter; and two brothers: Starkey “Fiddler” Lassiter and Woodie M. Lassiter. Surviving are her sons; Woodard “Woody” Emlis Copeland and his wife, Lu Anne, Vivian Eugene Copeland and his wife, Donna, all of Chesapeake, VA; two granddaughters, April Nicole Copeland of Franklin, NC and Amanda Renee Copeland of Brooklyn, NY, and their mother, Peggy J. Copeland of Edenton; two brothers; Sam H. Lassiter of Millennium, NC and Jerry C. Lassiter Sr. of Cape Charles, VA. Friends may join the family for a time of visitation Saturday from 6 to 7 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton.

A private graveside service will be held Sunday afternoon where she will be laid to rest with her husband in the Happy Home PHC Cemetery. The service will be conducted by The Reverend Walter Byrum In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be made to Happy Home Pentecostal Holiness Church, 534 Happy Home Road, Tyner, NC 27980, or River Shore Baptist Church, 4501 River Shore Road, Portsmouth, VA 23703. The family wishes to thank Carrie Byrum, Lucy Annette Charlton, Joyce Lassiter, Hazelene Miller, the Albemarle Commission-Senior Nutrition Program (Meals on Wheels) volunteers, the caregivers at Bon Secours Maryview Nursing Care Center, and Bon Secours Harbour View Hospice for the meal delivery, comfort, and care given to Audrey during her period of declining health.
