August R. “Augie” Swanson, age 83, of Whitehall, passed away Thursday, September 13, 2018 at home. He was born March 17, 1935 in Muskegon Heights to Russell and Marietta (Lang) Swanson. Augie was raised in Nunica.

He attended Coopersville High School and graduated from Grand Haven High School. He served in the U.S. Navy after high school. Augie was employed at the Butter Wagon Restaurant in Grand Rapids many years ago.

He also was employed at Lear-Siegler and retired from General Motors in Wyoming after nineteen years of employment. He lived in New Era upon marrying Joy, his wife, of twenty-two years. They moved to Whitehall four years ago.

He attended Rothbury Community Church. Augie is survived by his wife, Joy; his sons, August (Linda) Swanson, Jr., Mark Stocken, Richard (Jennifer) Swanson and Herman Swanson; stepson, Roy (Maria) Ramey; stepgrandchildren, Jasmine Johnson, Tyesha (Josiah) Swanson and Brittany (Devon) Carrico; his brother, Russell (Brenda) Swanson; and his sister, Betty (David) _______________ He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Charles and Ronnie Swanson and his stepdaughter, Jeanne. Visitation is Monday, September 17th, 2pm at Rothbury Community Church.
