Barbara Ann Fryer Marsee (“Barbara”) departed this earthly life on Monday, November 26, 2018. Born on April 20, 1931 in Atlanta, GA to Martin and Lucille Fryer, Barbara lived much of her childhood and adult life as a Floridian. In 1953, Barbara graduated from Florida State University with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education.

A few months prior to her graduation, Barbara married her college sweetheart and love of her life, Dwight “Bud” Marsee. After college, Barbara began her professional career as a pre-school school teacher. When their only child, Richard Marsee, was born in 1958, motherhood became Barbara’s primary focus and part-time teaching was the perfect fit for her new role.

Barbara and Bud called Hollywood, Florida home for over two decades. In 1984, the Marsee family moved from South Florida to Auburn, AL, and Barbara proudly became an ardent fan of all things Auburn University. As a lifelong United Methodist Church member (Riverside United Methodist Church, Jacksonville, FL; First United Methodist Church, Hollywood, FL; and, Auburn United Methodist Church, Auburn, FL), Barbara treasured the fellowship of her church family.

Barbara was also a member of P.E.O. (Philanthropic Education Organization) for 29 years. She cherished the love and support she received from this organization. Barbara reveled in supporting Bud with all his academic coaching endeavors.

She was by his side at most of his tournaments, cheering and supporting the teams. Barbara was a giver, and while holding a high expectation for herself and others, she would tend to be kind and gentle (particularly to those who were having a difficult time). Barbara allowed those who knew her to see love through her eyes – She never gave up; never stopped loving, praying and believing in goodness.

With her spiritual walk, and peace that passed understanding, Barbara’s Christian faith was rock-solid. Predeceased by her parents, husband, Dwight “Bud” Marsee; son, Richard Marsee and daughter-in-law Nancy Hartzog Marsee, Barbara is survived by her grandson, Ryan Andrew Marsee of Auburn, AL whom she loved and adored more than there are words. Barbara is also survived by her younger sister, Betty Sue Fryer Veal of Tallahassee, FL; niece Peggy Veal Taylor of Auburn, AL who has been very close to Barbara the last two years; niece Pam Veal Kuester and her husband, Ed, of Tallahassee, FL.

Barbara is also survived by her step grandson, Jeremy Dickinson of Auburn, AL. And, Barbara was so very grateful for the graciousness of the Duin Family for creating a loving, safe and nurturing home for her beloved grandson, Ryan. A memorial service celebrating the life of Barbara Marsee will be held in the sanctuary of Auburn United Methodist Church (137 South Gay Street, Auburn, AL) on Friday December 7, 2018 at 11 a.m. There will be a reception immediately following the service in Hamill Court at the church.
