Barbara’s Obituary Barbara Ann Wyatt Lindamood was born on February 19, 1960 in Weatherford, Oklahoma to L.B. and Joyce “Otey” Wyatt of Hydro, Oklahoma, and passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2019, at the age of 59 years, 2 months, and 11 days. Known by many names: Barb, Barbie, Mrs. Lindamood, Mrs. Mood, Mom – the most enduring name Barb went by was Ma – the term of endearment used by her 9 precious grandchildren. She loved them more than they will ever know.
An incredible woman, Barb was brilliant and had a gift of caring deeply for those around her, including her many students – many of whom became lifelong friends. Barb loved life and found a reason to be joyful and laugh in any situation, a trait she carried to the end. She raised her four children with love, a firm hand, and a healthy tolerance for pranks (which she was also known to instigate or join in), but always saturated with fairness, love and integrity.
As the youngest of the five Wyatt children, growing up on a cattle, wheat and peanut farm south of Hydro, her earliest memories were of checking cattle with her dad and sitting on his lap while he played dominoes during the winter at the domino parlor at the Hydro Fairgrounds. Two things were certain while growing up on a peanut farm in the 60’s and early 70’s: moving irrigation pipe by hand and hoeing peanuts in the summer. Barb, even though the youngest, got to put in her time doing both.
She remembered getting really hot while hoeing and telling her brother, Mike, “I think I’m going to pass out! ” Mike’s response was always, “Go ahead, pass out! ” Her love for cooking also began at an early age, as she would sit on the kitchen counter watching and later learning to cook from her mom.
Barb became a wonderful cook and used the skill as yet another way to love and serve others. First and foremost, cooking delicious meals for her family and friends. Yet, the self-taught skill she shared with hundreds was her ability to bake and decorate wedding, birthday, anniversary and graduation cakes.
Not only was Barb able to capture a reflection of the personality of the person or couple the cake was created for, but no one could replicate the delightful flavor of her cakes. Barb delivered and set up cakes all over the state of Oklahoma, and even some in Texas. Barb attended all 12 years of school at Hydro, graduating as Salutatorian of the class of 1978.
While in school she was active in 4-H, cheerleading, played basketball, and as all teenagers in small town Oklahoma did at the time, dragging Main. One special night, while at Sonic in Weatherford, she met the love of her life, Robert Lindamood. They dated while in high school, became engaged, and married while they were both students at SWOSU.
While at SWOSU, Barb was inducted into the Tri Beta Club, the society for honor biology majors, and graduated Summa Cum Laude in December 1982 with a degree in Biology Education. Her teaching career spanned 24 years: 2 years at Arapaho, 2 years at Eakly, and 20 years at Weatherford High School. Her teaching responsibilities at Weatherford included Honors Freshman Biology and Chemistry, Physiology, Anatomy and Environmental Science.
She was the local Student Council sponsor and District Director. Weatherford High School was a Gold Chapter Council 4 times under her leadership. Barb was honored by the WDN’s People’s Choice Award in 2004 as Teacher of the Year, and spent over 20 years making sure her students had a hot meal at school before testing started – serving at least 175 students each year on testing days.
Church was always important to Barb and she attended Pleasant Valley Baptist Church all her life. Barb was baptized at the age of 8, after giving her life to the Lord. Barb and Robert were married in May of 1980 in that church and raised all four of their children at Pleasant Valley.
She attended Falls Creek as a camper, and later as a chaperone and cook, spending over 15 years volunteer cooking at Falls Creek. Barb also lead singing during Sunday morning worship, taught Sunday School and VBS, and helped with many baby and wedding showers. Her heart for others was evident in everything she did.
