Barbara Rosenthal (Cohen), 88, of Sarasota, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2018. Barbara married her high school sweetheart while he was serving in the Army during the Korean War. For the next 67 years, she was the beloved wife of her superman, Neale Rosenthal.

Born September 18, 1929 in Hartford, CT, Barbara was the daughter of the late Samuel and Bessie Cohen. She graduated from Weaver High School Class of 1947 and Eastern CT State University. Barbara received an MS in Special Education from University of Hartford.

She also resided in Bloomfield, West Hartford and Groton, CT. Barbara was a special education teacher in the Bloomfield schools for 20 years. She served as President of the Sisterhood and Mr. and Mrs. Club of Beth Hillel Synagogue, Bloomfield, CT, of which she was a charter member.

Barbara was an avid reader and started book clubs in every town she lived. She passed her joy of reading to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Barbara loved the beach, and spent most of her summers with her husband at beautiful Jupiter Point in Groton, CT.

She loved doing crossword puzzles, playing piano, bridge, mahjong, slots at Mohegan Sun, and having fun wherever she went. She traveled on dozens of cruises with her husband, Neale. Barbara is survived by her four daughters, Lynne Rosenthal of Farmington, CT, Sheryl Meyer and her husband Tom of Beit Shemesh, Israel, Debra Sorosky and her husband Joel of Jamison, PA, and Judy Katsof and her husband Irwin of Suffern, NY.

She was Grandma Bobbie and Safta to her 18 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Each and every one of them and their spouses adored her. Barbara also leaves her many dear friends who loved her as much as she loved them.

She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. The family extends a special thanks to the staff of Heartland Nursing Home of Sarasota, Florida for their outstanding care and compassion. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 am today, Tuesday, June 19 at Temple Beth Sholom Cemetery, 901 Circus Blvd, Sarasota.

Shiva calling hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 1:00 PM-5:00 PM at 5752 Ferrara Drive, Sarasota 34238. In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara’s memory may be made to Chabad Lubavitch of Sarasota. Hebrew Memorial Funeral Services of Sarasota / Manatee is serving the family.
