OBITUARY Barbara D. Foster June 30, 1939 – November 24, 2018 The world lost a very precious lady November 24th, 2018. Barbara D. Foster was born Barbara Diann Banks on June 30th, 1939 to Ned V. C. Banks and Mary E. Banks. She was a proud “Navy brat” who spent her early years moving around the country due to her father’s service.
She graduated from Poughkeepsie High School, in Poughkeepsie, AR, and went on to attend nursing school at St. Vincent Infirmary School of Nursing in Little Rock AR, where she graduated as an RN on August 23, 1961. She was married to Dr. Arthur B. Jones for 18 years with whom she had three children. Barbara met the love of her life LTC James E. Foster in 1980.
They married May 8th, 1982 and spent 32 years together. Barbara had a great love for the mountains and in 1993, she and Jim moved to Carbondale, CO from Atlanta, GA, which was a dream come true. Barbara never new a stranger.
Put her into any situation, and she was quick to strike up a conversation and in no time, it would sound like there were long lost friends. True to her nature, she made friends quickly, and fell in love with her newfound community. Soon after moving to the area, she wanted to share her love of dance and specifically clog dancing, so she started a dance studio called Just for Kicks.
Barbara was never happier than during the years she spent living in Missouri Heights above Carbondale. She was a fun-loving person and enjoyed life and the people in it. She loved to ski and taught her children, grandchildren, and many others how to have fun on the mountain.
From living on the Western Slope of Colorado, Barbara and Jim moved to Colorado Springs due to health concerns and access to VA services. Again, she made friends quickly and formed what would be lasting relationships with her St. George’s Anglican Church family and many others. She was also involved in P.E.O International, which made her very proud.
Many people knew her as “Grammy,” and they loved her as their own. To her family, she was a loving touchstone, who was always available no matter what, our North star and compass. Her absence will be felt until we are all reunited in heaven above.
Barbara is survived by her sons David B. Jones (Dorothy Jones), Matthew R. Jones, daughter Kathleen E. Harris (William Harris), step children Amy Foster Eldredge (Brad Eldredge), John Foster (Dee Foster), brothers Ned V. C. Banks (Carol Banks), John Banks (Candice Banks), 23 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. She is proceeded in death by her husband LTC James E. Foster, father Ned V. C. Banks, mother Mary E. Banks, nephew Ned V. C. Banks, niece Tara Banks Searer, and stepson Scott Foster. Services will be held at St. George’s Anglican Church in Colorado Springs at a later date yet to be determined.
In lieu of flowers; please donate to the Wounded Warrior Project or St. George’s Anglican Church of Colorado Springs, CO in her name.
