Barbara Jean Greer September 05, 1925 – October 14, 2017 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| View Guest Book Entries| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Barbara Jean (Cross) Greer, age 92 of Loudon, passed away Saturday, October 14, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. Barbara was born to the late Freeman Grant and Jean Drysdale (Murrian) Cross in Honolulu, Hawaii. The family relocated to Knoxville when she was a little girl.

She attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville where she enjoyed being a member of the Chi Omega sorority and was elected the Sweetheart of Sigma Chi fraternity in 1942. She minored in Spanish and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Child Psychology. She was a member of Loudon United Methodist Church.

Barbara was an avid golfer and she enjoyed playing bridge with friends and loved reading and working puzzles. She adored traveling with her husband, chauffeuring the kids, leading Girl Scout Troops and volunteering her time for the March of Dimes. She was a devoted wife and a beloved mother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Carmichael Greer, her daughter, Jean Williams Greer and her sister, Lela Spitz. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Lynn and Mark Workman, Athens, Betty and Bill Mackebee, Jr., Knoxville; son, John C. Greer, Jr., Nashville; sister, Marilyn Doster, Chattanooga; brother and sister-in-law, Rev. Freeman and Emilie Cross, Jr., Dawson, GA; grandchildren, Barbara Lynn Greer, Philadelphia and William Greer Mackebee, Washington, DC; 7 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; sister in-law, Kathleen Greer King, “Teena” of Clarksville, and brother-in-law and wife, Hamill B. (Helen) Carey, Loudon, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Mrs. Greer will be privately interred in Steekee Cemetery. Honored pallbearers serving the family are: Greer Mackebee, Stokely, David and Freeman Doster, Jim King, Bo, Bart and Sam Carey. A service honoring and remembering her life will take place 3:00 PM Thursday, October 19th in the Loudon United Methodist Church with Rev.

Walt Simmerman officiating. A reception will follow the service in the Fellowship Hall of the church located at 509 Mulberry St. Loudon. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Greer may be made to the Loudon United Methodist Church, Post Office Box 342, Loudon, TN 37774.
