BOARDMAN – Barbara Kay Laudermilt King, 69, passed away peacefully Thursday evening, Nov. 29, 2018, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital. “Barbie,” as she was affectionately known to family and friends, was born June 22, 1949, in West Virginia, a daughter of Walter “Whitie” and Mabel Hixenbaugh Laudermilt, and came to this area with her family as a child.

She was a graduate of The Rayen School and attended YSU for a time. She worked her entire professional career for SIMCO Management, from where she retired in 2003. Upon retiring, Barbie relocated to Fort Myers, Florida, to enjoy the sunshine, her pool, and the beach.

Though she would often refer to her home in Florida as “paradise” for her, Barbie returned to the Youngstown area in 2008 to be close to family members and her aging parents. She was of the Catholic faith and was an avid animal lover. Her dogs, Tasha, Divitt, and Jordan received more love and care than most humans.

Besides her canine companions, Barbie enjoyed reading and dining out. She was a two-time breast cancer survivor and fearlessly fought the disease on both occasions, not allowing it to deter her one bit from her normal activities. Barbie’s true passion in life was spending time with her nieces and nephews, to whom she gave endlessly of herself and her res to make life extra special for them.

Her family is deeply saddened by her passing and will cherish the memories of her love, compassion, and dependability throughout the years in which they were fortunate enough to have Barbie in their lives. She is survived by her mother, Mabel Laudermilt; her sister, Vickie Hornyak; two brothers, Rick (Patti) Laudermilt and William (Angel) Laudermilt; several nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and a great-great-niece. Barb was preceded in death by her father; her husband, Jim King; and three nephews and a niece.

Private graveside services will take place at St. John Cemetery in Coitsville. Arrangements have been entrusted to Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd. , Youngstown.

Barb’s family would like to express appreciation to the staff at Ivy Woods Manor for the kindness shown and care given to her, and would like to express deep gratitude to Theresa Depp with COMPASS Family and Community Services, for her commitment to Barbie’s welfare and ongoing support of her family. Memorial contributions may be made in Barbie’’s name to Angels for Animals. Donations may be made to: Angels for Animals 4750 W. South Range Rd.
