Barbara L. Hansen, age 89, of Greenville, passed away Sunday morning, May 6, 2018 at Spectrum Health-United Hospital Rehab & Nursing Center in Greenville. The daughter of Edward Albert & Beatrice Angelica (Munson) Schilling, she was born on October 17, 1928 at home in Montcalm Township and was a 1948 graduate of Greenville High School. Barbara’s first job after high school was working as a bookkeeper for Meijer’s when they only has stores in Greenville and Cedar Springs.
On June 9, 1950, in Grand Rapids, she married Edward Bernard Hansen and together they had four children and enjoyed 62 years of marriage. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and enjoyed gardening, collecting antique glass, playing the piano and organ, sewing and knitting… however, her greatest joy was in time spent with her family. A long-time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, she had been active in the ladies circles and served for over 25 years as church treasurer.
With her late husband, she also participated in many of the activities of the Greasy Finger Two-Cylinder Club. After her children were grown, Barbara returned to the workforce in the office at Vining Sales and retired from the former Electrolux Home Products in Greenville. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward B. Hansen on January 2, 2013; a son, Bernard D. Hansen; a son-in-law, Gary Quisenberry; a grandson, Matthew Andresen; and a sister, Lois L. Schilling Surviving are her children, Julia A. Quisenberry of Six Lakes, Vina Carl & Brook Hansen, and Gina L. & David Andresen, all of Greenville; six grandchildren, Amy & Joe Rousseau of Gowen, Jeanne & Matt Mikiczenko of Troy, V. Carl & Tina Hansen of Texas, Edward J. & Angela Hansen of Greenville, Rachel & Christopher Mulford of Hudsonville, and Steven Andresen of Beverly Hills; eight great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Kathern M. Hansen of Greenville.
Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 9844 SW Greenville Road (two miles south of Greenville on M-91), where funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Rev. Betsy Kamphuis, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, will officiate and burial will take place privately at East Montcalm Cemetery.
