Barbara T. Lauber, 71, of Manalapan, N.J., passed away peacefully on May 18, 2019, in Matawan, N.J. Born on March 20, 1948 in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Julius and Pearl Ascher, she grew up in Queens, N.Y., before marrying and moving to Manalapan, N.J., where she raised a family and lived for 40 years. She is survived by Richard Lauber, her beloved husband of 48 years; daughter, Robyn Lauber; son and daughter-in-law, Scott Lauber and Rebecca Frisch; grandson, Jacob Lauber; and sisters, Elaine Deutschman and Joyce Putterman. Barbara graduated from Queens College, received her Master’s degree from Hofstra University, and taught elementary school for the New York City Public Schools in Bronx, N.Y., and multiple public and private schools in New Jersey.

An educator at heart and a caring homemaker, she was the best teacher to her own children. She was a voracious reader and delighted in finishing the Sunday crossword in The New York Times. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., at Gutterman Funeral Home, 175 N. Long Beach Rd.

, Rockville Centre, NY Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Beth David Cemetery, Elmont, N.Y. The family will be observing shiva from 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, at 382 Taylors Mills Road, Manalapan, N.J.
