Obituary of Barbara Monahan June 8, 1954 – May 6, 2018 Barbara A. Monahan (Avigne), Age 63 of Ruskin, Florida, formerly of Downriver. Beloved wife of Ray Monahan. Loving mother of Tonya (Craig) Nappo and Michelle (Tim) Baran.

Dearest grandmother of Kent, Erin, Drew, Daniela, London, Blaine, Arianna and Paolo. Dear sister of Robert Aben, Claudia Lienard and the late Terry Aben. FAMILY TRIBUTE Barbara Monahan longtime local realtor and community contributor dies after a long illness.

Barbara Ann (Avigne) Monahan, passed away Sunday, May 6th at Beaumont Southshore Hospital after a long courageous battle with cancer. Born June 8th, 1954 in Trenton, Michigan to the late Geraldine and Robert Aben. Barbara attended Carlson High School and worked and owned various businesses in the Downriver area.

In 1983 Barbara began a career in real-estate that spanned 35 years both here in Michigan and in Apollo Beach Florida where she currently resides. She was a member of many local charitable organizations including Kiwanis, Red Cross, Meals on Wheels, Easterseal Hillsborough County Florida and volunteered for many charity golf events! Barbara was a devoted mother to her daughters Tonya Kay Nappo and her husband Craig, Michelle Marie Baran and husband Tim and her eight grandchildren; Kent, Erin, Drew, Daniela, London, Blaine, Arianna and Paolo.

She is survived by her sibling’s, brother Robert Aben and wife Elizabeth, Claudia Lienard and husband Jason and preceded in death by her brother Terry Aben. Barbara also has a large extended family of aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. A devoted Christian, Barbara was an active member of the Calvary Lutheran Church in Apollo Beach Florida where she organized the yearly Angel Tree Ministry that provided Christmas gifts to over 900 needy family’s in the area.

She also served as a Stephan Minister in the church.
