Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 9 at 11 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Joseph City, located at 8181 N. Westover Ave. with a viewing beginning at 9:30 AM.

She was born on January 22, 1954, in Sacramento, California and was raised in Riverside, California, by her parents, Alden Anderson Oakes and Melba Olsen, along with her older sister, Susan, brothers Alan and Lee, and younger sister Linda. She attended Magnolia Elementary School, Central Junior High and Riverside Polytechnic High School from which she graduated in 1972. During her high school years, she faithfully attended early-morning Seminary classes.

Following high school, she attended one year at Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho, before transferring to BYU in Provo, Utah, where she studied Community Health. She also attended BYU-Hawaii in Laie, Hawaii, for a semester where she took advantage of her surroundings, spending time at the beach, and visiting other nearby islands. It was while attending BYU in Provo that she met her husband, Boyce Hunt, from Joseph City, Arizona.

They were sealed in marriage on March 5, 1977 in the Mesa Arizona Temple and are the proud parents of five children; son, Ryan, and daughters Amber, Emily, Mattie, and Meghan. Following school in Provo, they spent five years in Hemet, California, and three years in Mesa, Arizona, before moving to the ranch near Joseph City to establish their family home. She enjoyed being a “partner” with her son in the family cattle business.

Becky has been a faithful member of the church throughout her life, serving as Young Women’s President, primary teacher and as a visiting teacher and ministering sister. One of her favorite callings in the Primary was as Mrs. Friendly, a calling the children very much enjoyed because she did it with such love and enthusiasm. But the calling she loved most was being a wife and a mother and her family was truly her greatest joy in life.

Becky also enjoyed serving her community as an EMT and as a CERT Volunteer. She passed the exams to be a licensed HAM radio operator as well as a HAM radio technician. One of her greatest services was as a foster parent for Child Protective Services and the lives she touched through that are almost too numerous to count.

She has always had a strong sense of right and wrong and has taken numerous opportunities to stand up for those who needed an advocate. Becky is survived by her husband, Boyce; her five children, Ryan (Ericka) of Joseph City, Amber (Jesse) Hancock of Sahuarita, AZ, Emily Hunt of Tucson, Mattie (Tommy) McLaws of Joseph City, and Meghan Hunt of Sahuarita, AZ as well as eight grandchildren (Justin (Bryna), Bailey, Reese, Carter, Layla, Nellie, Daniel and Johnny) and one great-grandchild (Justin Jr.). She was preceded in death by her father, Alden Anderson Oakes and her younger brother, Lee Oakes.
