Miller, 98, formerly of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday morning, December 20, 2018 at Brookdale Senior Living in Hutchinson, Kansas. Born October 19, 1920 in Atlanta, Kansas, she was the daughter of Oscar and Alice “Leona” (Messenger) Hall. She was raised and received her education in Atlanta, graduating from Atlanta High School in 1938.

During World War II Bernadine worked at Boeing in Wichita to help support the war efforts. She was united in marriage to Carwin C. Miller on April 16, 1947 in Harrison, Arkansas. The couple made their first home in Merriam, Kansas, before moving to Winfield in 1948.

The couple celebrated 50 years of marriage. Bernadine was a dedicated homemaker as well as doing laundry for Southwestern College students to help make extra money. After their children were raised she began working in the laundry at Good Samaritan Village before working at William Newton Hospital.

She retired from William Newton Hospital in 1983. Mr. Miller preceded her in death on May 20, 1997. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Winfield.

She enjoyed collecting owl figures, cross-stitching, traveling, and playing Skipbo with her daughter. Bernadine and Carwin also enjoyed taking bus trips all over the country, including mystery trips. Her family includes her son Charles O. Miller and wife, Gel “Kay” of Ponca City, OK; her daughter Alice Feist of Hutchinson; her five grandchildren, Brent Miller; Megan Feist; Michelle Guthrie; Troy Simmons; Kristin Steen; four great-grandchildren, Hunter Guthrie; Spenser Guthrie; Layne Guthrie; and Jake Simmons; and numerous nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Bernadine was preceded in death by her son-in-law Wayne Feist, a nephew Randy Lynch, and her four siblings, Clemence Hall, Curtis Hall, Oran Hall, and Peggy Lynch. Graveside funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at Highland Cemetery in Winfield. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield, on Friday December 21, 2018 from 4 to 8 P.M. A memorial has been established in Bernadine’s name for the Food Pantry at Grace United Methodist Church in Winfield.
