HARWOOD, Bernard A., 100, of Pawtucket passed away February 28, 2019. He was the beloved husband of the late Helen T. (McKinnon) Harwood. Bernard was born in Providence, RI a son of the late Louis and Rose A. (Hart) Harwood.

He worked as both a foreman for Gilbane Construction where he was a member of the Local 271 Laborer’s International for 50 years and a bus driver, who happened to drive the last trolley car in Providence. Bernard is survived by his children, Helen A. Matteson and her husband Robert of East Greenwich, former Speaker of the House of Representatives for the State of Rhode Island, John Harwood and his wife Patti of Lincoln and Bernard Harwood and his wife Pauline of East Providence. Mr. Harwood leaves his grandchildren; Helen A. Fleury and her husband Mark, Megan Decker and her husband Seth, John Patrick Harwood, Kylie Huxley and her husband Christopher, Lindsay Harwood, Olivia Harwood Bernard Harwood and Joshua Harwood.

He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Mark Robert, Matthew, John, Grayson, Reid, Nikayla and Nevaeh. Bernard was the brother of the late William Harwood, Kathleen Burns, George Harwood, Thomas Harwood and John Harwood. The funeral for Mr. Harwood will be Tuesday, March 5th at 9:00 am from the Manning-Heffern Funeral Home, 68 Broadway, Pawtucket, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Raymond’s Church, North Main Street, Providence at 10:00 AM.

His burial will be with full Military Honors in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Cranston. Calling hours will be Monday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the funeral home. For directions and online condolences visit www.
