Bernard J. “Bernie” Hankinson, 78, of Juinata Street, New Baltimore, PA , died at 6:47 PM, Saturday, December 1st, 2018 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Cambria County. Mr. Hankinson was born in New Baltimore on July 12, 1940, son of the late Dionysius Alphonsus “Nash” and Grace Adeline Hankinson. On August 17, 1970, he married Shirley L. (Burkholder) Hankinson.

She preceded him in death on November, 27, 2013. He is survived by Son- Joseph B. Hankinson, New Baltimore; Daughter- Kathy L. Nail partner Valerie Topper,Bedford; Step Son- Roger L. Helsel, OH; Granddaughter- Amanda; Granddaughter- Amber; Granddaughter- Alissa; Granddaughter- Ashley; Granddaughter- Madison; Great-Granddaughter Olivia; Great-Granddaughter Jasmine; Great-Grandson Nicholas; Sister- Mary Grace Stiffler, New Baltimore; Brother- Richard Hankinson, Vienna, VA; Sister- Margaret “Peg” Diehl, Manns Choice. Bernie is preceded in death by, Sister-Rose-Marie Hillegas, Brother-Buddy Hankinson, and Sister- Judy Allianello Bernie was a member of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in New Baltimore.

He was employed as a Union Operating Engineer for Local 66 in Connellsville, PA. Mr. Hankinson served in the US Army and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, New Baltimore Borough Council, New Baltimore Sportsman Club. Bernie loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was crazy about his family and was an exemplary father. He was a stewart to all and was very giving and would help anyone in need. Mr. Hankinson was a very good baseball and softball player.

He will be missed dearly by many. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, New Baltimore, PA. at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, December 5th, with Father Mark Pattock – Celebrant.

Committal will be held atSt. Johns Cemetery New Baltimore. Friends are invited to call on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Mickle-Geisel Funeral Home, Schellsburg. Memorial contributions in memory of Bernard “Bernie” Hankinson may be made to: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Danny Thomas Place, P.O. Box 1000 Dept.
