Obituary Service Details Bernice Peters, age 94, of Rembrandt, Iowa died Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Longhouse Residence-Northshire in Spencer, Iowa. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sioux Rapids American Legion Community Center in Sioux Rapids. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the Community Center.

Interment will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery. Bernice Stange, the daughter of John and Florence (Dean) Stange was born at Doon, Iowa, on February 5, 1923. She lived her youth in the Hull community where she was baptized and received her education.

On December 20, 1940, Bernice was united in marriage to Elmer Peters at Sioux City, Iowa and this couple was blessed with four children: Donna, Robert, Ronald and Roger. Following their marriage, Bernice and Elmer lived on a farm near Rembrandt where Bernice was a homemaker and helped Elmer with the farming operation. She later was a cook at the Rembrandt school.

In 1969, they moved to Minnesota where they continued farming. They relocated to Spirit Lake, Iowa in the late 1970’s and resided there until retiring to Rembrandt in 1984. When they first lived in Rembrandt after their marriage, they were members of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.

Following their return to Rembrandt in 1984, they were affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Special interests of Bernice’s included sewing, crafting, her flowers and spending time with her grandchildren and enjoying their activities. She and Elmer always looked forward to the Tuesday Dinner Date in Sioux Rapids where they could fellowship and play cards with their friends.

The couple also spent their winter months in McAllen, Texas where they made many lifelong friends. Bernice’s life is cherished and celebrated by her family which include her husband of 77 years, Elmer, of Spencer, Iowa; her children: Donna (Maynard) Patten of Webb, Iowa, Robert (Connie) Peters of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, Ronald (Coelet) Peters of Rembrandt, Iowa and Roger (Barb) Peters of Rembrandt, Iowa, 11 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren, other extended family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
