Bertha Maravilla, 96, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2018 surrounded by family. She was born on October 1, 1921 in Pocatello, Idaho. She was the only child of Jesus Espinosa and Josephine Cerda Estrada.

She received her education in Pocatello, Idaho. Bertha met Joseph Maravilla at a church dance and they were later married. They had six children.

Bertha’s work history included working at St. Anthony’s Hospital by preparing meal trays and delivering… Read More » them to the patients, managing a small ceramic shop where she taught classes, working at National Laundry and Troy Parisian Laundry as a seamstress and pressor, working for the railroad, working as a teacher’s aide for Head Start and finally with the housing department at Idaho State University. Upon retirement she cherished the time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She and her grandson Joseph built a special bond between them due to the love they both had for baseball. Joseph would always check in on his grandmother until his untimely death. Bertha enjoyed baking, embroidering and attending to her garden.

She was well known for her kindness to others, her patience, devotion and deep love for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bertha was preceded in death by her infant child, Albert Maravilla; her former husband, Joseph Maravilla; her parents, Jesus Espinosa and Josephine Cerda-Estrada; and her grandson, Joseph Jerry Maravilla; several aunts, uncles and cousins. She is survived by her children, JoRita, Nina, Abel, Lewis (Jane), and Darrell (Kita) Maravilla; grandchildren, Erica (David) Christensen, Nathan (Melanie) Maravilla, Raquel Torres, Annalisa Skidmore-Daiz, Albert and Andre Maravilla; great grandchildren, Macy Maravilla, Taylor and Jaxson Christensen, Sophia and Bently Torres, Marianolee and Elena Skidmore, Raul Diaz, Anrique and Alija Maravilla.

A Catholic Rosary service will be held on Friday, October 5th at 12:30 at Holy Spirt Catholic Community, St. Joseph’s Chapel at 421 North Hayes, Pocatello followed by the funeral mass 1:00 pm at the church. Interment will then be at Mountain View Cemetery. Please share memories, photographs and condolences on Bertha’s tribute wall.
