Bess’ Obituary Mrs. Bessie Kirby Lamb Lyle of East Point, GA went to her eternal home on February 23, 2019. Mrs. Lyle was born in Athens, Georgia and grew up in Rome, Georgia where she lived until 1947 when she married Charles Lamb and moved to the Atlanta area. She and Charles had 3 daughters, they later divorced.
In 1992, Bess married the love of her life, Claud T. (Speedy) Lyle and were married until Speedy passed away in 2001. They enjoyed almost 10 happy years together. Bess was preceded in death by her parents Mr. and Mrs. H.M. Kirby, 3 brothers, Dr. J.D. Kirby of Los Angeles, CA, Judge Albert Kirby and Mr. Cree Kirby of Rome, GA, and 2 sisters, Mrs. Sylvia Herndon and Mrs. Ebbie Thomas of Dallas, GA.
She is survived by her daughters Charlene (Olen) Armitage, of Jonesboro, GA, Trina (Frank) Pellegrino of Dahlonega, GA, and Angel (Tim) Jones of Locust Grove, GA, Ronnie (Ginger) Chester of McDonough, grandchildren, Brian (Teresa) Crile of Freeport, FL, Neil (Tracy) Crile of McDonough, GA, Jason (Heather) Chester of Panama City Beach, FL, Holly (Blake) Brooks of Jonesboro, GA, Jeramey Jones of Locust Grove, GA, Heather Jones of Locust Grove, GA, and Casie (Brandon) McDowell of Locust Grove, GA, 13 great-grand children and 2 great-great grandchildren, her baby sister Judge Martha Glaze and her husband George, sister-in-law Mrs. Virginia Kirby of Rome, GA, and a number of nieces and nephews. Bess grew up in the Baptist Church but later became a Methodist. First, at Park Street United Methodist Church where she was a member of the UMW and also worked as the church secretary for many years.
Secondly, at East Point United Methodist Church and thirdly, at College Park First United Methodist Church where she held many offices as well as belonging to the United Methodist Women, The Altar Guild, The East Point Historical Society, and Intercity Civitan Club. Bess loved her family and friends. She enjoyed spending time with them, going out to dinner, traveling, and bragging on her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Bess will be deeply missed as she brought love and laughter to all that she knew. We know Speedy was waiting at Heaven’s Door. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 26th in the Donehoo-Lewis Chapel, with Reverend Ed Nelson and Reverend Katy Hinman officiating.
Interment will follow at College Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000 Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908.
